If you took the abortion pill and are still experiencing pregnancy symptoms or believe you may still be pregnant, you may be wondering whether the abortion was complete.

Follow-up testing with your healthcare provider can help determine whether the pregnancy has ended or is continuing.

Crossroads PRC La Grange can also help you understand your options moving forward and provide emotional support during this time.

Contact Your Healthcare Provider

If you are concerned that the abortion pill did not work, contact your healthcare provider for follow-up care.

Pregnancy symptoms such as nausea, breast tenderness, or fatigue are important to notice, but symptoms alone cannot tell you whether the pregnancy is continuing.

Your healthcare provider may recommend a follow-up pregnancy test, blood testing, or an ultrasound to determine what is happening. An ultrasound can provide important information about whether the pregnancy has continued or whether there are signs that the abortion was complete.

You should also seek urgent medical care if you experience severe abdominal or pelvic pain, very heavy bleeding, fainting, severe dizziness, fever, or other concerning symptoms.

Additionally, severe or one-sided pain, dizziness, fainting, or weakness can be warning signs of an ectopic pregnancy, which requires urgent medical treatment and cannot be ended by the abortion pill.

If Your Pregnancy Is Continuing

If follow-up care confirms that your pregnancy is continuing, you still have options.

Parenting may feel overwhelming, but support and community resources are available to help you prepare.

If parenting does not feel right for you, adoption is another option to explore. You can take time to learn about what an adoption plan could look like and what sort of contact you would like to have with your child.

Crossroads PRC La Grange is here to answer your questions and help you explore your options. We won’t pressure you to make a specific decision; the choice is yours.

We Are Here for You

If you learn that your pregnancy is continuing, you do not have to navigate what comes next alone. Crossroads PRC La Grange provides no-cost pregnancy services and a place to ask questions, learn about available resources, and talk through your options.
